- Trek Trivia
- -------------
- by Matthew Dean, Simon Plumbe and William Sienkiewicz
- -------------------------------------------------------
-
- Yet another helping of assorted goodies that slipped past the cutting
- room floor...
-
-
- CLASSIC TREK
- --------------
-
- "THE CAGE"
- ----------
-
- * In the scene near the beginning in Pike's quarters where he is
- contemplating leaving Starfleet, look closely at the furniture in
- his room. Right at the end of his bed is a television!!
-
- * Also, if you look at Majel Barrett's hands during the episode, she
- can be seen wearing a ring - no other regular character has been
- seen wearing one!
-
- * There is a scene that appears in the episode that seems to have
- been edited slightly out-of-sequence when the colour edition was
- re-constructed. Just before the Enterprise loses all power, we see
- a Talosian walk out of a doorway. The scene then cuts to the bridge
- of the Enterprise and then cuts back to the same Talosian walking
- out of the same doorway!
-
-
- "THE MAN TRAP"
- --------------
-
- * When beaming down at the beginning of the episode, the transporter
- operator is wearing a one-piece red jumpsuit, but when the camera
- cuts to the close-up shot of his hands, he is wearing a normal
- engineering top!
-
- * If you look carefully at one of the Salt Vampire's victims, a
- crewmember wearing a spacesuit, you will notice when his body is
- discovered that the actor has trouble "playing dead" and can be
- seen blinking!
-
- * When Spock is in sickbay near to the end of the episode recovering
- from his attack by the Salt Vampire, if you look closely at the
- gash on his forehead you can see green AND red blood emerging from
- the wound!
-
-
- THE MOVIES
- ------------
-
-
- STAR TREK II - THE WRATH OF KHAN
- --------------------------------
-
- * Some marvellous mistakes here. Firstly, watch the bit where Kirk is
- running to see what Spock has done to himself, right at the end. As
- he enters Engineering, his uniform flap is closed. In the next
- shot, where McCoy and Scott hold him back, it is suddenly open, and
- a lot of the white inlay is showing. Next scene, where Kirk goes to
- talk to Spock, the flap is half closed, with only a little white
- showing!
-
- * Watch the finale, where the Enterprise blasts away as the Reliant
- explodes. What I don't understand is what happened to the Mutara
- Nebula when Reliant exploded. It just... went!
-
-
- STAR TREK IV - THE VOYAGE HOME
- ------------------------------
-
- * This is very funny! Get to the bit just after Uhura has beamed up
- from aboard the "Nuclear Wessel" Enterprise - the bit where Scotty
- shouts at Chekov to "Please signal again!". While saying his piece,
- Scotty dribbles!!! Good, eh?! (You can tell we're running out of
- trivia, can't you!?)
-
-
- STAR TREK VI - THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY
- ---------------------------------------
-
- * Watch the bit where the bridge starts to shake like crazy, just
- before the wave hits. The chap standing next to Sulu is showing him
- a report, then, in the very next shot, he is seen losing his
- balance at the back of the bridge!
-
-
- STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION
- --------------------------------
-
-
- GENERAL
- -------
-
- * There would appear to be a massive flaw in Starship design here.
- The observation lounge/conference room is to the aft of the bridge,
- yes? From the motion of the stars visable through the windows, and
- the starship schematics we know that it points straight back, yes?
- Then why can't we ever see the nacelles, and the rest of the ship
- from it, eh???!
-
-
- "IDENTITY CRISIS"
- -----------------
-
- * Watch out for all the different pronounciations of Susanna
- Leijten's name here. It ranges from Lighton, right down to Layton.
-
-
- "LOWER DECKS"
- -------------
-
- * In the Next Generation episode "Lower Decks", La Forge and Taurik
- intentionally damage a shuttle craft to make it seem that it had
- evaded an attack, and yet when this shuttle is launched from the
- Enterprise-D shuttle bay it is undamaged! Budget constraints of the
- special FX crew maybe..?
-
- * Ensign Sito is assigned to a top-secret mission to Cardassian space
- and yet she walks to the shuttle bay (to board the same shuttle
- mentioned above), cosmetically altered to appear to have been
- abused by a Cardassian, within full view of the "none-the-wiser"
- crew in the corridors.
-
-
- STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE
- ----------------------------
-
- "THE SIEGE"
- -----------
-
- * In the Deep Space Nine episode "The Siege", during the scene where
- O'Brien and Li Nalys are using a smoke screen to evade attack -
- when the camera pans from O'Briens' smoke-screen generator to the
- two men (O'Brien and Nalys) focus your attention to the bottom
- right-hand corner of the screen, you will see the hidden smoke
- generators kick-in!
-
-
- Another helping next time...
